hex
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
hex publishes speculative literary flash and speculative prose poetry. We welcome the surreal, the weird, and the uncanny. We are based at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA.
For this call:
- Co-editor Daniel Miller is especially interested in speculative sports, sci-fi epics in miniature, and paranoid strangeness.
- Co-editor Kate McIntyre wants to read pieces about (or told by) beguiling monsters.
- Co-editor Joe Aguilar hopes to see work with the uncanny logic of dreams.
If your piece doesn't fit any of the above categories, please send it anyway!
We especially encourage submissions from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ writers, writers with disabilities, and early-career writers.
We consider stories and prose poems (no line breaks) of 1000 words or fewer. Submitters may send up to two stories or two prose poems in a single submission if the total wordcount does not exceed 1000. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but please withdraw work through Submittable promptly if it’s accepted elsewhere.
We are not able to pay contributors at this time.
We will not platform writers or works promoting hate speech or bigotry.
We do not accept submissions produced with the assistance of AI.
We do not accept previously published submissions in English, although we welcome English translations of stories or poems published in languages other than English, provided you have the rights for republication.
Due to conflict of interest, we cannot consider submissions from current WPI students, faculty, or staff.
